Description
What is Symbicort?
Symbicort is a prescription combination inhaler designed for long-term management of asthma and COPD. It is used daily to help keep symptoms under control and reduce the risk of flare-ups rather than treating sudden attacks.
What Symbicort Contains
- Budesonide — a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation inside the airways
- Formoterol fumarate — a long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes airway muscles to keep breathing passages open
How It Works
- Budesonide works over time to calm swelling and irritation in the lungs
- Formoterol helps relax airway muscles so air can flow more freely for longer periods
Important: Symbicort is a preventer inhaler — it will not provide immediate relief during an asthma attack. Keep a separate reliever inhaler (such as salbutamol/Ventolin) for emergencies.
How to Use It
- Remove the inhaler cap
- Breathe out gently before use
- Inhale the medication as directed
- Replace the cap after use
- Rinse your mouth afterwards to reduce the risk of oral thrush
Dosage
Typical dosage is 1–2 puffs twice daily, but this can vary depending on your age, condition severity, and doctor’s instructions. Always follow the prescribed dose.
