Description

What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a prescription only weight management treatment which is supplied in prefilled, injection pens. The injection pens are available in different strengths from 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg.

Mounjaro should be used alongside a low calorie diet and regular exercise to help with weight management in overweight or obese adults. Mounjaro contains the active ingredient tirzepatide, which works with the hormones that regulate appetite, digestion and blood sugar levels.

How Does Mounjaro Work?

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide which works with two hormone receptors in your body:

  • GLP-1: This helps to reduce your appetite by regulating blood sugar and helping insulin release after eating
  • GIP: This works with GLP-1 to help blood sugar control and regulating appetite.

Can Anyone Use Mounjaro?

Mounjaro can be prescribed for weight management in adults who meet certain criteria, such as having a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above along with at least one weight related health condition. Our clinicians will assess whether Mounjaro is suitable for you before prescribing.

How to use Mounjaro

Mounjaro is a prefilled pen which is injected under your skin such as into your abdomen, upper arm or thigh. The injection should be used on the same day, and same time each week.

Mounjaro is often started with the lowest dose of 2.5mg once a week for the first four weeks, which is then gradually increased to 5mg once a week. If needed, you may be able to increase the dose further over time.

Mounjaro should be used exactly as prescribed as well as following the safety guidelines. You should never share your injection pen with anyone, even if the needle has been changed. You should also not try to use additional doses from the pen, once the 4 doses have run out.

Mounjaro is not recommended to take during pregnancy, or if you’re trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
