Description
What is Trimethoprim?
Trimethoprim tablets are an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, most commonly UTIs and bladder infections (cystitis). They can help relieve typical UTI symptoms such as a burning sensation when urinating, a frequent or urgent need to pass urine, and lower abdominal discomfort.
How Trimethoprim Works
Trimethoprim targets the bacteria causing the infection by stopping them from multiplying. This gives your immune system the chance to clear the remaining bacteria, allowing symptoms to ease and eventually resolve.
How to Take It
Usually taken once or twice daily depending on the infection and severity. For mild or uncomplicated cystitis, a typical course involves one dose every 12 hours for around three days. Always finish the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve quickly.
